Supporter of Taleh Bagirzadeh Arrested in Barda
Baku / 27.10.17 / Turan: An activist of the Muslim Unity Movement Elshan Abbasov was arrested in the Barda region. He was charged under Articles 234 (drug trafficking) and 228 (illegal possession of weapons) of the Criminal Code.
According to the police, Abbasov was found 1.9 grams of heroin, and a pistol Nagan, a grenade and a knife were seized from his car.
Abbasov"s relatives say the accusations are false and he is persecuted because of his support of the Muslim Unity Movement leader Taleh Bagirzadeh, who together with a group of associates was sentenced to long term of imprisonment in the "Nardaran case."
Abbasov himself had previously been sentenced to 2 years in prison on charges of violating public order because of participation in a meeting of believers before the Ministry of Education on May 6, 2011 with a demand to lift the ban on wearing hijabs (Muslim women"s kerchiefs) in schools.
