The Court of Appeal does not free Ahsan Nuruzade
On Thursday the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) considered the complaint to an administrative arrest for a period of 10 days a religious activist Ahsan Nuruzade. The BCA rejected the complaint, said lawyer Yalcin Imanov. Nuruzade was arrested on charges of not subordinate police. Ostensibly the activist swore in front of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized (MDCOC) Crime Ministry of Internal Affairs, and when the police called him to order, he swore at them and tried to escape. "Nothing like that happened. He was detained by three civilians in front of the house where he lives, and was taken to the MDCOC, was kept there for six days and all this time, his family and the lawyer did not know anything about him," said the lawyer. Even after the court decision Nuruzade was not taken to the detention center, but was returned back to the MDCOC. Thus, a number of fundamental rights and freedom of Nuruzade guaranteed by the Constitution of Azerbaijan and the European Convention of Human Rights have been violated. Nuruzade told in the court that he wrote confession because of the moral and psychological pressure of police. After a short conference, the judge announced that the verdict upheld and added: "There is only one day to the completion of his sentence." The lawyer said that the court's decision will be appealed in the European Court of Human Rights .-- 03B06-
