The Court of Appeal leaves Afgan Mukhtarly in jail
Baku / 24.04.18 / Turan: On April 24, the Sheki Court of Appeal ended the process on the complaint of journalist Afgan Mukhtarly. During the meeting, the judge rejected all 14 defense motions. The court also heard the testimony of Gafur Mammadov, recognized as a warrant officer of the border guard service. However, answering the questions of Mukhtarly and the lawyer, he gave contradictory evidence.
Referring to the judges Mukhtarly said that the person differs from other creation by having a conscience and called on the judges to act in accordance with conscience.
In support of the political nature of his case, Mukhtarly pointed to the removal from the work of one of his lawyers - Neymat Kerimli. As a result, the court upheld the verdict .
It should be reminded that Afgan Mukhtarly was abducted by Georgian policemen on May 29, 2017 in the center of Tbilisi, and sent across the border of Azerbaijan. The next day he was arrested on charges of smuggling 10,000 euros, resisting the border guard and illegally crossing the border. In January 2018, he was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment. International and local human rights activists have recognized him as a political prisoner. -05B06-
