The Court of Appeal will consider the complaint of Hilal Mammadov behind closed doors

A Preparatory hearing in the case of the chief editor of "Tolyshi Sado", Hilal Mammadov, took place in Baku Court of Appeal chaired by  the judge, Jamal Ramazanov.

The appeal was  filed  against the verdict of  Baku Serious Crimes Court, which on September 27 sentenced Mammadov to five years of  imprisonment on charges of treason , inciting ethnic hatred and drug trafficking.

According to  the lawyer Ramiz Mammadov, a preparatory meeting  in the Baku Appellation Court was   closed. The court explained that  by the presence of state secrets in the case in the part relating to  high treason.

However, the defense applied for an open trial. In addition, lawyers have petitioned the court to hold the repeated investigation because the trial court had considered the case objectively.

Lawyers have also set a motion to change the measure of restraint and release from  Mammadov in custody. However, the court did not satisfy any one of the petitions, and scheduled the consideration of the  case  for 10:30 on December 25. Protection does not exclude the submission of a cassation appeal against the decision of the preparatory meeting.

* Mammadov was arrested  on June 21, 2012 by the employees of the  Department fight Drugs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on charges of drug trafficking. Subsequently, he was accused of treason and inciting ethnic hatred.

Local human rights activists believe that Mamedov is persecuted for his critical comments posted them on the Internet as a popular music video "Who are you, let a goodbye."  Mammadov noted that this clip became  more popular  that a glorified Azerbaijan "Eurovision",  on which authorities have spent huge amounts of money. Amnesty International recognized Mammadov “a prisoner of conscience.”—06D--
