Baku/06.05.17/Turan: The monitoring center for political prisoners demanded an objective investigation of the death of the blogger, political prisoner Mehman Galandarov in the pretrial detention center on April 28. In the statement, the official version of suicide is questioned and

about the possibility of Galandarov's torture,  taking into account sad practice in the detention centers of the country.

"Death of the blogger, political prisoner Mehman Galandarov in jail under strange circumstances caused a resonance in the country and the world. “Local and international human rights organizations, the US Department of State,” demand an objective investigation, the Center said in a statement.

"Torture, making give testimony, deaths have become common. On December 22, 2014 in  jail N14ny the convict Elshad Babayev died of torture, and on October 7, 2015, the only witness of this crime Yadigar Nuriyev died under unknown circumstances," the head of the Center Elshan Hasanov said.

The convicts who demanded the investigation of these crimes were punished and among them was the political prisoner Araz Guliyev. In a long list of tortured, human rights  are the activist Leila Yunus, youth activists - Giyas Ibrahimov and Bayram Mammadov, blogger Mehman Huseynov and others.  In the police stations died Zaur Soltanov (Khazar district), Bahruz Hajiyev (Mingechevir). Rashad Abbasov was brutally beaten in the first police station of Sumgait, etc.

"We repeatedly appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor's Office of the Ministry of Justice, the Penitentiary Service with a request to investigate the crimes of officials, but there was no reaction," Hasanov said. The sad glory of cruel treatment of prisoners is Gobustan's covered prison, colonies NN 14 and 17, and the jail N3 known as the "tuberculosis zone."

"No one has ever been punished for criminal acts. No measures were taken to protect the rights of prisoners, and the so-called "Public Committee" to monitor places of detention, "the Committee against Torture", and even the Ombudsman," Hasanov continued.

"The authorities are obliged to fulfill their obligations to the international community, to take into account the opinion of voters, with local and international human rights organizations. Persons who have transgressed the Law must answer under the Law," the statement says.-06B--
