The Georgian and Armenian citizens tried to sell uranium 238
Georgian State Security Service (SSS) arrested three Armenians and three Georgians for trying to sell nuclear material, said at a briefing on Monday an investigator for particularly important cases of SSS Savle Motiashvili. According to him, the detainees were trying to sell uranium (U238) for $200 million.
"They were detained on the fact of committing a crime. In the house of one of the detainees was seized a shipping container with uranium (U 238.) Taking into account a dose rate radiation and the source, according to the conducted radiological examination, the seized substance is dangerous for health and life human.
The investigation is conducted on the fact of improper circulation and marketing of nuclear material (part 1., Art. 230 of the SSS, which provides from 5 to 10 years of imprisonment.) On April 16 the Tbilisi City Court chose all six detainees confinement in pre-trial detention as a measure," said Motiashvili.
According to experts, the seized material can be used to make "dirty" bomb. It is not reported whom the criminals wanted to sell uranium 238 and what was its weight. -02D-
