The IRFS calls to celebrate International Day of Solidarity of Journalists at the grave of the mother of Mehman Huseynov
Baku / 07.09.18 / Turan: The head of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety, Emin Huseynov, on behalf of his organization called on journalists to mark the International Day of Solidarity of Journalists, on September 8 at the grave of his mother. "This will signify solidarity with my imprisoned brother Mehman and other arrested journalists," Huseynov said. He said that until now, the official structures did not provide the family with an official conclusion about the reasons for the death of the mother. vFirangiz Huseynova died after a long illness. After hospitalization on July 15, she was always in intensive care and was connected to artificial support devices. However, before the death she was transferred from the intensive care unit to the intensive cardiology department. On the night of August 6 she passed away. Despite serious health of mother condition, her son, the blogger Mehman Huseynov was not allowed to see her. She was buried on August 7 with the participation of Mehman's son, who was given permission to attend the funeral.
The Day of the Solidarity of Journalists is marked at the decision of the Fourth Congress of International Organization, which took place in May 1958 in Bucharest in memory of the Czech journalist Julius Fucik, who was executed by the Nazis on September 8, 1943. At the end of the 20th century, the UN proclaimed this day the International Day of Solidarity of Journalists. -0--
