The prosecution to Akram Aylisli toughened
The investigation toughened the accusation to the writer Akram Aylisli, said his lawyer Elchin Sadigov. Thus, Article 221.1 (hooliganism) was re-qualified to Article 315.1 (resisting the authorities with violence) of the Criminal Code.
According to the lawyer, Article 315.1provides for penalty of imprisonment up to three years. Alternative forms of punishment under this Article is not provided. The case was referred from the police department on transport in Baku prosecutor's office.
It is noteworthy that two days ago Aylisli published an open letter to the president of the country, which pointed to the absurdity of the charges against a 78-year-old man on beating of 35-year-old employee of a frontier airport. The writer asked the president to intervene and prevent arbitrariness.
On 31 March Aylisli was detained at the Baku airport, when he was going to participate in the international literary festival. After the 15-hour detention the writer were released, a lawsuit was filed against him on hooliganism charges, and was accused of beating border guards. Aylisli believes that he is being persecuted for the publication of the novel "Stone Dreams" that caused the wrath of the authorities. -03B-
