The Supreme Court reduces the fine of Avaz Zeynally
The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled on the decision of the Baku Court of Appeal in respect of the convicted editor of "Khural" newspaper, Avaz Zeynally, Turan was told by lawyer, Elchin Sadigov.
The Supreme Court considered the decision of the Court of Appeal concerning the the fine imposed on the suit of "Baltika-Baku" to 25,000 manat. The Supreme Court reduced the fine amount to 7,000 manat, but upheld the claim of the plaintiff to publish a retraction and apology. Lawyer Elchin Sadigov called the decision illegal and intends to file a complaint with the European Court.
The editor of the "Khural" newspaper, Avaz Zeinally, was arrested on October 28, 2011 on charges of extortion by threats. The investigation claimed that the editor had extorted money from the MP Guler Ahmadova (now arrested for fraud.) -05B04-

Last night, three earthquakes occurred along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with magnitudes of 4.8, 3.0, and 3.8, according to the Republican Center for Seismological Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no information about any destruction or casualties as a result of the earthquakes.
