The Court of Grave Crimes held a preparatory meeting on the case of two citizens of Azerbaijan, Firdovsi Yusifov and Taleh Sultanov, who are accused of involvement in the war in Syria as members of the Islamic State.
After the announcement of the charges, the defendants said they did not feel guilty. The process will continue on March 6.
MNS previously reported the arrest of 26 Azerbaijani citizens for participation in the fighting in Syria and Pakistan. This list also included Yusifov and Sultanov.
The investigators believe that they fought on the side of Pakistan terrorists against government forces and then moved to Syria, where they continued participation in the Islamic State troops.
In August 2013 they were arrested during the illegal crossing into the Iranian territory, and on April 24, 2014 they were transferred to Azerbaijan. The wife and mother-in-law of Sultanov also arrived in Syria and are still there. -02D-
