Younis Safarov is forced to slander his own lawyer
Baku / 03.09.18 / Turan: Leila Ismayilova, mother of Yunis Safarov, accused of attempting to assassinate Ganja city head, Elmar Veliyev, again appealed to the public, claiming torture of her son. According to her, under physical pressure Safarov gave testimony against lawyer Elchin Sadigov, that he allegedly forced Yunis to give "false" testimony that he was tortured in the General Directorate on Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC) of the Interior Ministry. Otherwise, he was threatened with returning from the pre-trial detention center to the GDCOC, and torture with electric current.
Ismayilova believes that all this is being done to intimidate lawyers and discourage them from defending those whom the authorities consider to be their enemies.
"After the new tortures, he is again being hidden and they say that my son has a new lawyer appointed by the state," she noted. Ismayilova calls on the country's leadership to end the torture of her son.
On July 3, a citizen of the Russian Federation, a native of Ganja, Younis Safarov wounded the head of the city Elmar Veliyev and his guard Gasym Ashbazov with a pistol.
A week later, on July 10, a group of 150-200 people in the city organized a protest action in front of the city administration. Two high-ranking police officers were killed during clashes with the police.
On September 28, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov announced that 77 people had been brought to criminal responsibility for these events, another 11 people are wanted. -06D--
