Youth organization opposes the "sex education"
On Wednesday youth organization "Center of National Thought" held in the media center press conference in connection with the proposed addition to the law on "Reproductive health and family planning" on the teaching of the subject under the title "Sex education".
According to the head of the organization Shahriyar Medzhidzade, the introduction of such a subject in schools of Azerbaijan is inappropriate. According to him, the subject can lead to confrontation. He recalled that the school is attended by children from religious families and, therefore, the subject will be perceived by the children themselves and their parents with hostility.
In addition, the teaching of this subject can lead to increased cases of violence. Conservative family will stop to let their girls to school due to teaching the subject.
"The new discipline may be the subject of confrontation between the secular people and religious outlook. Moreover, adolescents have not yet got strong consciousness, and may be tempted to have sex contacts, what is highly undesirable.
Reminding the experience of the introduction of such a subject abroad, Shahriyar Medzhidzade noted that a couple of years ago there was an attempt to introduce this subject in Russia, but the public opposed this, and the idea damped. The idea was not supported in the UK. As for America, in some states of the country the subject was introduced. However, half a billion dollars were spent on pre-program to study protection of reproductive health of teenagers. Despite the introduction of such a discipline in the United States, statistics indicate that each year in America, 750,000 teenage girls become pregnant, 20,000 are infected with AIDS, and another four million are infected with various sexually transmitted diseases.
"If Parliament of the country passes a law providing for the introduction of such a subject in schools, our organization will appeal to the Milli Majlis and will protest against it, "said Medzhidzade.
According to him, it is necessary to address social issues, raise child allowances, scholarships and more. Analyticalshould seriously explore the possibility of adopting such laws, he said. "Those who adopt such a bill will be responsible to the citizens of Azerbaijan," he said. -04С-
