Zaur Gurbanli Was Arrested in Connection with Booklet of NIDA
Sunday after serving a 15-day administrative arrest the youth activist of NIDA, blogger Zaur Gurbanli was freed.
He said his arrest was related to the booklet NIDA, the circulation of which was removed from the office of another youth organization Positive Change. On the booklet was depicted the silhouette of human head, similar to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, with the inscription: "In 2013 I will go away, if you become a member of Nida".
Activist in the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GUBOP) Ministry of Interior, where he was held, said that they had information about the content of the booklet of anti-government slogans.
The activist was asked who the inventor of the booklet was and who was involved in its making, but Gurbanli took over.
Realizing that there was nothing illegal in the booklet, and after bringing the matter to the attention of local and international democratic community, they stopped questioning the blogger.
However, Gurbanli said that he will still serve until the end of the term of administrative arrest. In this case, he was "advised" not to file an appeal, since the criminal case against him will not be instituted.
Gurbanli noted that in the first days after his arrest he was put under psychological pressure and they threatened beatings and criminal charges. But to physical violence is not reached.
However, Gurbanli said that the conditions of detention and the treatment of them by the staff supervisors were normal.
According to the MOE, Gurbanli was arrested for "disobeying police during his arrest in connection with the operational information on drug trafficking."
However, according to the activist, at the time of his detention they did not say anything at all about drugs. -06D -
