Lawyer Shahla Gumbatova refused to testify at the prosecutor's office
Baku/17.12.19/Turan: Lawyer Shahla Humbatova refused to testify at the General Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General’s Office today. This was reported by her colleague, lawyer Elchin Sadigov.
According to Sadigov, Humbatova is a lawyer, and in accordance with Section 7 of the Law on the Bar, she cannot disclose the content of conversations with her client.
“An investigation in the prosecutor’s office was initiated on the basis of an appeal from the Bar Association. Shahla
Humbatova refused to testify. The investigation was launched under article 294.1 of the Criminal Code (falsification of evidence). The reason for this was the statement by one of Humbatova’s clients that she allegedly submitted a fake document to the court.
However, this document was not accepted by the court and there are no grounds for an investigation.
Humbatova appealed to the head of the Anti-Corruption Office with a request to close the case.
She is convinced that she is being persecuted for political reasons, for advocating for human rights violations. -21D-
