Baku Blesses Hadid, Admits Her to Union of Architects of Azerbaijan
The international architectural presentation of the Heydar Aliyev Center was held yesterday with the participation of the architect of the project of the building, Zaha Hadid.
Recently, in an interview with BBC, Hadid was forced to answer tough questions about why she agreed to design a building named after a dictator. Journalist Jeremy Paxman compared the work of the architect with "the glorification of tyranny."
At this Hadid said: "I do not build private houses, I build public buildings, such as libraries and museums." Then the journalist said that the building bears the name of a person, who violated human rights. Hadid replied "That's his name. I can not change it."
At yesterday's ceremony, it was announced that Hadid was elected as an honorary member of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan and was awarded a Medal, which was named after architect Mikail Useynov. -16D-
