Civil Society: Stop pressure on the Union of Cinematographers
A group of civil society representatives has issued a statement in response to the recent efforts to put pressure on the head of the Union of Cinematographers Rustam Ibrahimbekov.
Authors of the statement strongly condemn the persecution of members of the Union of Cinematographers, qualifying it as a restriction on freedom of expression. They demand an immediate end to pressure and harassment of the Union and its leader - Rustam Ibrahimbekov, and respect for freedom of expression and association guaranteed by the Constitution and the international instruments to which Azerbaijan is a party.
The statement was signed by Rashid Hajili (Director of Media Rights Institute), Rasul Jafarov (head of the Club of Human Rights), Leila Aliyeva (head of the Center for National and International Studies), Anar Mammadov (head of the Center of Election Monitoring and Democracy Training), Ilgar Ibrahimoglu (head of the Center for Freedom of Conscience and Religion), Mirvari Gahramanli (Chairwoman of the Committee for Rights of Oilmen), Irada Javadova (Public Association for Human Rights Education), Intigam Aliyev (Community for Legal Education), Leila Yunus (Director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy), and Firuddin Allahverdiyev (composer).
On November 20, 2012 the Ministry of Taxes had another check of the Union of Cinematographers, and then - December 27, filed a criminal case under article 213.1 (tax evasion).
Criminally liable under Article 179.3.2 (misappropriation and embezzlement) is involved Lala Efendiyeva, who was responsible for the international film festival East-West held in Baku in 2009. -16D04-

Ahmet Güneştekin answered questions from Turan Information Agency a few days after the opening of his solo exhibition, Lost Alphabet, held in the 8,000-square-meter indoor halls of the Feshane Cultural Center, managed by the Istanbul Municipality. The exhibition, inaugurated by Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, will remain open until July 20.
