Family Festival at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art
On March 10-12, 2017 the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art (ANMA) hosts the second Family Festival at a Museum – a joint project of the museum and "Milli Irsimiz" curatorial team. "Family Festival at a Museum" is a nomadic concept that changes museum venue each time.
This new initiative supported by the country’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, aims at expanding museum audience and boundaries of a museum making it attractive for families.
The museums in Azerbaijan have limited family activities offer in their event programming, however children visit museums in school groups as a part of school extra-curricular activities.
The idea of a family festival is the first step in filling this gap and promoting museums as a place of informative and exciting family entertainment. The first Family Festival in a Museum took place on June 25-26, 2017 at the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. The two-day event attracted several hundred visitors per day aged from 2 months to 80 years! For the second edition of the Family Festival in a Museum ANMA team and invited guests will prepare thematic activities and workshops specifically catered for "adult + child" pairs. Museum will also present 20-minute interactive tours for a more focused study of museum collection.
The core of festival program is guest participants – the volunteers and project partners - who deliver various lectures and workshops. Thanks to their pro-bono participation and a support received from the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, the Second Edition of Family Festival in a Museum is free to attend with a museum fixed entrance ticket of 5 manat (children below age 3 enter for free).
The festival aims at helping ANMA to establish a proper Family Corner – a place for edutainment museum activities. We hope that media attention to the festival and example of in-kind support of the festival participants will bring this dream into limelight, as well as administrative and financial support. Thus, your participation in the festival will empower the museum staff and help them create comfort and warmth in the museum for children and families!
