Academician Sagdeev awarded the highest award of Azerbaijan

Academician Roald Sagdeev is pleased with Azerbaijan's achievements in the field of space research. And the reason is not that yesterday President Ilham Aliyev presented the consultant of the Space Programme of the Republic the award to the Order of Friendship (Dostlug).

On the eve of launching into orbit of the first space satellite of Azerbaijan, he spoke highly of the prospects of the space program in the country and the strengthening of international relations in this direction.

Sagdeev was the first "closed nuclear" Academician of the USSR (at the age of 36), Senior Specialist in the Kurchatov Institute (Hero of Socialist Labor, twice holder of the Order of Lenin, etc.), who succeeded in the late 1980s to emigrate from the country, then to work and live abroad (University of Maryland USA) since 1990.

He specializes in plasma physics and in controlled thermonuclear fusion. He is married to Susan Eisenhower - granddaughter of 34th U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-61). - 17D-
