Accident on gas pipeline in Geichai region
Azerigas, gas transportation and distribution company of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), continues extinguishing fire on the section of the Gazimagomed-Gazakh gas pipeline in Geychay region, which happened on January 11, 2013 in the morning.
A source from Azerigas told Turan that several fire brigades have been operating on the accident site. All required machines and new insulated pipes were delivered here from Baku.
The explosion occurred in Karabakkal village at 7.20 a.m. local time. It is believed that gas leakage has caused the explosion, which led to fire. The employees of the Aghdash gas pipeline and three fire brigades arrived to the accident site. As the accident site was located at a high elevation and roads were covered with ice, the special technique had difficulty approaching the accident site.
As a result of the accident, six villages in Geichai region and 1500 customers in the region centre were left without gas.
Geichai city is located in the centre of Azerbaijan, 255 km away from Baku.
