Anti-government rallies in Venezuela
According to Rosbalt, on February 23, 2014 the opposition activists staged the rally in the capital of Venezuela. The opposition gathered together tens of thousands of participants and became the biggest since Nikolas Maduro’s coming to power in April 2013.
The rally in Karakas was peaceful, there were several clashes between the demonstrators and law enforcement agents, but five people are reported to be injured.
The demonstration in support of Nikolas Maduro was staged in another part of Karakas. Although Maduro has addressed the participants, it gathered much less people, than the opposition rally.
The mass actions of protests against the current President Maduro and his government have been going on in Venezuela for over 10 days. 10 people died and over 100 were injured during the clashes between the police and the demonstrators.
The demonstrators protest at the economic crisis in the country, shortage of basic products and growing prices. Maduro claims that the protests have been masterminded by “internal and external enemies of Venezuela.”
