Baku hosts international forum Caspian "Water Technologies"
Today at Hilton Hotel Baku, an exhibition was opened in 2013 CATEF Caspian International Forum "Water Technologies", which was attended by over 200 experts in the field of hydrogeology, water supply, public sector, technology and water construction.
The main topics of discussion are the innovative technologies to clean drinking water, environmental solutions for sewage and rainwater, use of waste products, expert assessment of water sources, the management of water supplies and water supply, etc.
Speaking at the opening ceremony Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov reported about the extensive activities of the Government of the country to form a reliable water supply and reconstruction of water distribution and sewerage networks. According to him, in 2011, was commissioned Oguz-Gabala-Baku length of 262 km and a capacity of 5 cubic meters per second, cost the state $ 1 billion and in addition, $ 1.4 billion was spent on the construction of the reservoir Takhtakorpu in Shabran district and channel-Takhtakorpu Jeyranbatan that can provide the Absheron Peninsula with 18 m3 of water per second. According to the vice-premier, settlements in the Absheron peninsula with a population of about 4 million people in the coming years will be provided uninterrupted water. The government will upgrade the water supply and sanitation services in 38 cities and regions. These projects will be completed within the next 2-3 years.
Vice-President of the World Association of Hydrologists Igor Zekster praised work of Azerbaijani hydro geologists in the study and development of sources of Greater Caucasus. He called unique and having no analogues in the world the laying of the pipeline from 87 wells drilled in the Oguz region. -08B-

At today’s session of the Milli Majlis, Azerbaijan’s parliamentarians discussed and approved in the first reading a draft law increasing the minimum subsistence level for 2025. The updated figures reflect a modest rise of 10 manats, setting the nationwide living wage at 285 manats. For specific demographics, the levels are 305 manats for the working population, 232 manats for pensioners, and 246 manats for children. The same session also approved the criterion of need at 285 manats for the coming year, aligning it with the national living wage.
