Beef Rises by 13.7% over Past Two Months
On August 1, the price of beef in Baku and regions of Azerbaijan increased by AZN 0.50 or 6.6% and reached AZN 8 per kg.
This is the second consecutive increase in the past two months. By the end of June beef increased in price by AZN 0.50 per kg - from 7 to 7.50 manats, or 7.1%.
Turan’s research shows that over the previous years in the period from June to July beef also increased in price from 7 to 7.50 manats.
In 2014 August and September, the price of beef in Baku a number of regions increased to 8 and 8.5 manats per kg, and then decreased to 7 and 7.5 manats.
The price of beef decreased markedly in January 2015 - to AZN 7 per kg.
The highest jump in beef prices was observed at the end of 2012 and 2013, when the price rose to 9 manats.
The agency experts have noted that the current increase is due to the wedding season, which began immediately after the Muslim month of Ramadan, which ended in early June.
In this connection, we can expect a rise in prices in August-September to 8.50 -9 AZN.
It should be noted that livestock is experiencing hard times. On the one hand the continuing devaluation of the manat increases the cost of food and other expenses, and on the other – the consumers’ solvency falls.
During the oil boom in 2008-2014 there was 31 kg of meat per capita, and the proportion of beef along with poultry and mutton was about 30%. Now this figure in general and specifically on beef has decreased. Merchants complain about the low liquidity of beef. -0-
