Ecology Ministry Warns Travel Companies
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources issued a statement in connection with illegal hunting of foreign tourists in Azerbaijan, particularly Arabs. This structure intensified after the media and social networks spread information and video in this regard.
Analysis of common photos and video footages indicates that some of them were carried out in Azerbaijan.
In autumn and winter hunting of local and foreign hunters under the law is allocated corresponding to the quota. On the basis of international commitments and conventions to which Azerbaijan has acceded, including the decisions of the Cabinet, dated September 30, 2004, foreigners and stateless persons hunting are allowed.
The analysis carried out by the Ministry showed that the animals and birds shown on the video shooting modes are not included in the Red Book.
With regard to the hunting quota, the local hunters in one day are allowed to hunt waterfowl in the amount of up to six birds, and foreign citizens for five days are allowed to hunt 10 birds. Local hunters can hunt a rabbit, and foreign hunters can hunt two. Foreign hunters in most cases hunt in groups.
The ministry also analyzes activities of travel agencies that organize hunting for foreigners. Travel companies are warned in advance and instructed.
The Ministry of Environment reports that 16 hunter tourists from the Arab countries were fined for violating hunting rules this season. On the basis of the submission of the Ministry, they were expelled from the country. - 08D--
