European commissioner calls on member states of the European Union to create an energy alliance

The European Union is still too dependent on Russian energy, and not actively  is building energy alliance, said the vice-president of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič. "We need to continue active steps to diversify the sources of energy" quoted  him the  agency Reuters.

The EU countries are in no hurry to unite energy systems, in particular due to poor planning and the government's reluctance to depend on other countries. Maroš Šefčovič has called for "urgent political action" to bring together networks and gas transportation systems. For deliveries were stable, affordable, efficient and diverse, you need at least three suppliers.  To some EU member states Russia  is the only supplier.

Poland's new conservative government plans to continue to invest in the coal industry, and a few European companies, in September agreed with "Gazprom" to expand the pipeline "Nord Stream", which is contrary to the desire of the EU to reduce its dependence on Russian gas. Therefore, the Commission doubts that the expansion of the "Nord Stream" complies with EU rules.

In the future, the European Commission presented a strategy to expand the supply of liquefied natural gas. In February next year Lithuania will be the first European country to  receive  gas  cargoes from the US. -02D-
