Ilham Aliyev Receives Head of DP World
On September 7 the Head of State, Ilham Aliyev, received the Chairman of the group of companies DP World, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sula. The President's press office has not informed on the details.
However, the visit of such a big transportation company from Dubai gives rise to a number of assumptions.
Founded in 2005, the company has its headquarters in Dubai. The company has offices and representatives in 110 countries and transport facilities (ports, ferries and terminals) in dozens of countries.
The company is engaged in shipping and supply chain, logistics, sea and land transportation throughout the world. Its capital turnover is billions of US dollars. It has 37,000 employees,
DP World has 77 existing marine and inland terminals and 50 related businesses in 40 countries on six continents. The container turnover is the main form of activity of the company, which brings more than 75% of its revenues, which exceeded $ 3 billion in 2015.
Apparently DP World intends to become a party to the transport project North-South with the participation of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran. Purely logically and financially the Dubai company is the most profitable and convenient partner for the participants of the projects North-South and East-West.
As for Azerbaijan, we can expect DP World to participate in the construction of the new Baku port and a transport terminal in Sangachal and the organization of logistics and services of freight traffic on the route North-South.
We also cannot exclude participation of the Dubai company in the organization of the transport corridor from China to Central Asia, Azerbaijan and further on to Europe. -02B-
