Imports of Wheat Increase Twice
In the first quarter of this year Azerbaijan was delivered 495,611.5 tons of wheat, which is approximately two times higher than the figure for the same period last year.
In the first months of this year, the country experienced a shortage of wheat stocks, in connection with which the Ministry of Emergency Situations controlling the State Grain Fund increased its purchases abroad. According to the State Customs Committee, a ton of wheat was imported at $ 236.5.
Kazakhstan was purchased about 42 thousand tons of wheat and Russia was bought 453.6 thousand tons.
Last year, the average price of imported wheat (1 million 195.6 thousand tons) was $ 245.8. The volume of domestic production of wheat amounted to 1 450 thousand tons, which is 23.5% less than in 2013.
The Ministry of Agriculture told Turan that in the coming days mass harvesting of wheat will start. This year, wheat was sown on 540 thousand hectares. ----08B
