In 2013 government forecasts to extract 46 million tons of oil

Next year the Azerbaijani government forecasts to extract 46 million tons of oil and condensate, according to the data from the draft of state budget for fiscal year 2013.

According to this information, 8 million tons of this volume will fall to the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), including joint ventures (JV) and operation companies extracting oil onshore, 2 million tons on Shah-Deniz project and 36 million tons on Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) project (both projects are operated by BP company).
A year ago the government forecasted that in 2012 Azerbaijan will extract 45.9 million tons of oil and condensate. However, during 6 months, 2012 the country extracted only 22.2 million tons. The production decline continued in the second semi-annual period and in October Azerbaijan International Operation Company (AIOC) – the main oil maker – has fully suspended production on the Deep-Water Guneshli platform for one month. Therefore, this year the oil production will total 43.3-43.5 million tons at best.
The error of 7-10% in the forecasts of the Azerbaijani government is normal.
* From January to September 2012 Azerbaijan extracted about 32,746 million tons of crude oil, down 7.8% against the same period in 2011.—0—
