Share of Old Cars in Car Market Grows
Baku / 23.03.18 / Turan: The age structure of the car fleet is perhaps the only indicator of official statistics that sheds light on the real picture of social stratification in Azerbaijan, the economist Rovshan Agayev said. In general, the data on the automobile market reveal the nuances of social stratification, reflecting the existing social distance.
For example, the allocation of social strata can be carried out according to levels of income, consumption, the nature of work, leisure time and many other things. However, the data of national statistics in these areas are not adequately approached or not at all. For this reason, economists are forced to turn to alternative sources, and information on the dynamics of processes in the car market keeps comparative objectivity.
It is noteworthy that only 12.5% of our country's car fleet falls on cars no older than 5 years, but this indicator was higher for several years. So, in 2012 - 2013 in the age structure of the car market the share of such cars was 14%. "This shows that the crisis affected the import of new cars," Agayev said. For comparison, cars not older than 5 years account for 27% of the Russian car market. In Europe, this indicator is higher and is at the level of 32 - 33%.
But let us turn back to local realities. The number of cars with a service life of more than 10 years is 67% today, while three years ago their share in the overall structure of the car market was at 65%. In Russia, this indicator is much lower - 48%, and in Europe it is 36%.
These statistics reflected not only the drop in the purchasing power of the population, but also the recent increase in the excise tax on cars with a large engine volume. As a result, the increase in prices also affected small cars, the property expert Ramil Osmanli said. According to the expert, by February the cars of the price range of 10,000 manat (engine capacity of 2,000 cubic centimeters) went up by 10%, and vehicles with engine capacity of 2,500 and more cubic centimeters - by 2,000-3,000 manat and more. Against this background, in the demand structure there is preponderance towards small and old cars.
If you turn to the State Statistics, in January - February this year, the import of cars increased by 1,015 units compared to the first months of last year. As it turned out, 1,867 cars were imported to the country. According to the results of two months of 2018, $ 54,903 million was spent on imports of vehicles and spare parts, which is $ 23.67 million, or 75.7% more than before.--0--
