The growth rate of the ICT sector in the last year was 14%

Last year, the growth rate of the sector of information and communication technologies in Azerbaijan amounted to 14 % of the total revenues of $ 2 billion, said Minister of Communications and ICT Ali Abbasov said at a Cabinet meeting on the results of socioeconomic development in 2013.

According to him, significantly expanded both stationary and mobile phone network - subscribers across the country are in the third technology, the capital and its suburbs - the fourth generation. Internet users are 70 % of the population, access to the international network increased by 35%, the electronic content within the country according to preliminary estimates - 40-45 %, e-business and retail - 50%. Greatly expanded use of electronic services in the areas of education and health, as well as accelerated virtual business activity.

30% increased subscriber network of mobile and fixed broadband Internet, the transition (98%) viewers from analog to digital broadcasts. In 2013, in the border areas built three powerful stations to prevent interference with broadcast from neighboring countries that helped to solve many problems. Across the spectrum of very great importance to our country, installed and put into operation the first radio frequency monitoring system resources - for Baku and the Absheron peninsula there were set stationary stations, and for other areas - 3 mobile stations.

During the year, revenues in the postal sector increased by 5.5 % due to the expansion of banking and financial services , including the management of bank accounts , non-cash payments , money transfers , utility and other payments , distribution of pensions in remote villages , providing all kinds of services , except for deposits and loans. There was provision of electronic mail services, as well as in remote villages through mobile postal vehicles.

In the portal of "electronic government" included new services - 428 services approved by the Cabinet of Ministers and 281 officially provided through the government portal. Last year, the government portal requested 262 thousand citizens, rendered more than 730 thousand electronic services. Established was the mobile signature ASAN Certification Center of the Ministry of Taxes, which joined the unified electronic signature system of the country.

In the field of space activities there is the telecommunications satellite Azerspace-1, which in July 2013 launched its commercial operation. Within 6 months of export services rendered to foreign countries mad up about $ 10 million; these funds were sent by Azerkosmos JSC under the control of the Ministry of Finance for payment of 60-65% of the current credit debt.

Azerbaijan has already used a new type of nana materials, electronic units, light elements, electronic tablets, computers, voice control in the Azerbaijani language, software, new mobile applications and new solutions created. There were created a state fund for ICT development, different economic zones, including the High-Tech Park, the training of specialists and engineers high-level, very necessary for innovative and technological development.

Together with the activities in the plan of infrastructure and industrial projects, as well as conducting educational, scientific and technical conferences, forums and exhibitions, also held were mass rallies online. Particular interest in the society was caused by the online knowledge contest titled "I am Azerbaijani," which (lasted 6 months) was attended by over 230,000 people.
