The interest of railway passengers is reduced each year
Over the first nine months of this year 1 891.7 thousand passengers were transported in Azerbaijan. This is by 7.7 % less compared with 2012 year. Last year passenger carriages traffic on this mode of transport decreased by 22.7%.
Head of the Department of passenger carriages CJSC "Azerbaijani Railways", Elyar Muradov, told Turan, that the decline in passenger traffic is due to the reduction of electric trains. Passenger traffic on domestic routes from Baku (Ganja , Gazakh , Agstafa , Balakan , etc.) remain stable.
There is a growth on international destinations by 10% . According to the representative of the Azerbaijan Railway, the reduction of passenger traffic is also affected by aging car fleet, which affects the density of cars in traffic.
In 2012 the JSC "Azerbaijan Railway" transported 2,668 million passengers , of which 305,000 are international routes (Moscow, Tyumen , Rostov , Tbilisi.) In 2007-2009, 6.4 million passengers a year used services of railway.
Line of electric trains in Baku and Absheron peninsula were eliminated since the summer of 2009 by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers with regard to their "economic inefficiency ." 08B
