The owners of Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipeline areas have not yet received the payment

The government is responsible for damages and compensation to 3,257 landowners, whose land came under the construction of the Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipeline and who have not received fair compensation. This was once again announced today at a press conference at the press center of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety by the Chairman of the Organization of Oilmen's Rights Mirvari Gahramanli. The construction of water supply, which runs through eight areas, began in 2007 and was completed two years ago.

Gahramanli, whose organization monitors the implementation of projects using oil revenues, noted that construction on the project was conducted by the state-run Azersu water supply company, which avoids replies to inquiries for the damages caused to the landowners. The Finance Ministry, responding to inquiries, claims that the documents on payment of compensation have not been provided by JSC Azersu. The lawyer Azer Guliyev noted that Azersu has not fulfilled any of the statutory requirements of the law "On the purchase of land for public use". "The customer had to inform the landowners, evaluate their land and loss on disposal of land, and so on," he said.

At the press conference, it was emphasized that the efforts of the lawyers managed to win two cases to recover compensation that has already been executed. Next in line are several such cases. At the same time it was noted that the country's citizens should not suffer from this project great in value, which cost the State Oil Fund 780 million manat.

Referring to the environmental and social aspects of the project, Gahramanli noted that studies have shown that only in the Oguz region 25 springs have dried up as well as several artesian wells. Moreover, according to her knowledge, the water coming from the Oguz district to Baku is used commercially and sold to Turkmenistan by a private company. 08C
