Weather conditions prevent stability of transit
Baku/18.12.13/Turan : The volume of transit freight transport corridor TRACECA on the territory of Azerbaijan for 10 months of this year amounted to 12 397.3 thousand tons. This is 5.2% less than in the comparable period in 2012 .
Carriers explain the reduction with adverse weather conditions , namely the strong winds of the Caspian Sea , which prevent berthing ferries.
The Department of freight of CJSC Azerbaijan Railways told Turan, that in October of this year, 6,699 were discharged from ferries, in November there were 5,932, and by the 16th of December - 2,330 cars.
Transportation is carried out both on the eastern and western destinations (Europe , Turkmenistan, Tajikistan , Turkey and other countries) . Basically on transit is transported crude oil , construction materials, aluminum castings , household supplies , etc.
The State Railways and Caspian Shipping Company gained 121 718.1 thousand manats from transit transport, which is 5.7 % less than in January- November 2012 .
According to the SSC, for 11 months rail transport carried 7 344.7 thousand tons ( -2.8 %), water transport - 4 306.7 thousand tons (- 7.4 %) of the cargo . Oil accounts for 56.3% of the sea freight. - 08B-

Azerbaijan’s central bank has reported a stable currency market as its foreign exchange reserves reached $11 billion by the end of 2024, according to Taleh Kazımov, Chairman of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA). Russia and Iran have agreed on a gas pipeline route passing through Azerbaijan, according to Russia’s Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilyov. The Russian minister stated that the parties are in the final stage of negotiations, and the volumes have already been determined. According to Tsivilyov, Iran’s agreement with Russia’s Gazprom for gas supply via Azerbaijan is currently estimated at over 2 billion cubic meters annually. However, future supplies could increase to 55 billion cubic meters per year.
