EU Ready to Take Turkmen Gas through Iran
The Vice-President of the European Commission on energy Maros Sevkovich after a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov said that the Turkmen gas can be transported through the territory of Iran.
Sevkovich noted that the transit of Turkmen gas through the Trans Caspian gas pipeline through Azerbaijan could take place since 2019, BBC reports referring to AFP.
He noted that diplomatic relations between Iran and the EU are moving in a positive way, and looked forward to the signing of a mutually acceptable agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
In turn, Iran believes that the gas transit through its territory is more favorable than under the Caspian Sea.
Today Turkmenistan could supply Iran with about 5 billion cubic meters of gas in swap operations, delivering it to the northern regions of Iran, Turan’s analysts said. In turn, Iran can pass the same volume of gas to the west of Turkey. Although it has some of the biggest gas reserves in the world, Iran has no developed internal network of gas pipelines, which makes problematic both the internal supply and the export of gas. -0-
