Baku/02.03.23/Turan: The US Charge d'Affaires in Azerbaijan visited the border with Iran.
This is stated in a message on the Facebook page of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan.
"US Charge d'Affaires Guevara visited the office of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan in Astara and familiarized himself with the use of equipment provided by the United States to prevent drug trafficking along the southern border of Azerbaijan," the statement said.
It should be recalled that nearly every week, the Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies publish information about the seizure of tens of kilograms of drugs smuggled from Iran.
Besides, armed clashes between drug traffickers and Azerbaijani border guards regularly occur on the Iranian-Azerbaijani border. At that, there are dead and wounded on both sides.
Issues related to the prevention of drug smuggling have repeatedly been discussed at meetings of Azerbaijani and Iranian officials. However, drug trafficking from Iran continues to grow. -16D-
