Ali Hasanov: the press is to blame
"We can not restrict the rights of citizens to protect their honor and dignity in the courts , as well as the rights of courts to consider and take decisions on these matters, said Ali Hasanov , the head of the socio-political department of the Presidential Administration, commenting on the situation around the large court fines against opposition newspapers "Azadlig" and "Yeni Musavat".
According to him, media must comply with professional ethics and not violate the rights of citizens.
"The government supports the media and tries to provide financial support, but if the press will not take responsibility for their work: to observe ethical standards and respect the rights of citizens, find the courage to publish a refutation, it will continue so," said Hasanov.
In his view, the press can not unilaterally have legal advantages. "Taking into account that we are now discussing the adoption of the law on defamation, the press should have the responsibility to respect the rights of citizens," he said. He added that "if the court rulings are sent for execution, the authorities can not do anything about it.»—06B-
