Arbitrariness of Police Caused Protests in Goychay

Several hundred villagers in Myrty, Goychay spent last night in the street to protest against the tyranny of patrol police.

Reason for dissatisfaction of hundreds of people was that, about 11 pm, a patrol car stopped a married couple, returning from the cemetery. Policemen in incorrect form began to find out who they were and why they had gone to the cemetery at night. The couple said they went to the grave of their son on the eve of Ramadan.

However, the response did not satisfy the police, who decided to detain the spouses to determine their identities. The police action caused outrage and villagers came to the place and had a conflict with the police. The police called for reinforcements and arrested several people.
After that, hundreds of villagers gathered and went to the building of the police station, demanding the release of the detainees. From there, they marched through the streets of Goychay and dispersed after the detainees were released.

"Indignation of the population is due to the fact that the police behave very badly. They have established posts at the entrances to the village and extort money from everyone who arrives and leaves. The villagers are involved in vegetable production and wholesale buyers, who constantly come here, suffer from the extortionists," one local, who asked to remain anonymous, told Turan.

He also noted that the villagers believe in God and this is another reason that the police try to keep them under control. This is reflected in the fact that for no apparent reason the police stop cars or young people and require their documents.

Such control has lasted for a long time, and the police abuse their power a lot, which violates the fundamental rights of the citizens. Such acts were the reason that the people took to the streets, demanding an end to police brutality, said the same source.

On the morning of August 18 the situation in the village was stable, but it is possible that the authorities will arrest the activists, who most actively demanded stopping the tyranny. -02B-
