Armenia is worried about the threat from Nakhchivan
Baku/14.03.18/Turan: Military exercises conducted in Nakhchivan cause serious concern in Armenia, stated the leader of the Democratic Party of Armenia, Aram Sargsyan, at a press conference in Yerevan on March 13. During the last period, 6-7 large joint military exercises of Azerbaijan and Turkey were held in Nakhchivan.
A large number of Turkish troops and equipment have been transferred to this site. It is known about the secret agreement between Turkey and Azerbaijan on interaction in case of war in Nagorno-Karabakh. In fact, today our country faces a serious threat," Sargsyan said. He called on the official Yerevan to inform the international community, including the OSCE and the CSTO, about the "imminent threat".
Sargsyan noted that Armenia's defense power is strong enough, but "the polarization of society can weaken Armenia so that it would not be able to protect itself."
In his turn, ex-Minister of Defense of Armenia Vaharshak Harutyunyan stated at another press conference in Yerevan that Armenia won the war in Karabakh through an alliance with Russia, therefore calls to withdraw Russian troops from Armenia are unacceptable. Responding to a question about the threat from Nakhchivan, Harutyunyan acknowledged that from this territory of Azerbaijan it is possible to strike Yerevan from medium-range weapons - "Tochka-U" or "Tornado". Secondly, from Nakhchivan it is possible to penetrate into Syunik (Zangezur) and establish a direct connection with the rest of Azerbaijan.
The military equipment concentrated in Nakhchivan makes it possible to use this territory as a military base and all these circumstances "cannot but disturb the Armenian side," he noted. -02D-
