The role of road infrastructure in the development of the economy, distrust of banks, relations between government and society are the leading topics of today's press.
The newspaper "Azerbaijan" writes that the economic potential of the country provides an opportunity to achieve this goal. Having made a short digression into the statistical data on GDP, the author turns to the theme of building roads in the country, noting that the absence of such creates great problems.
So, last year a 1300 km highway was built. The author reminds that Azerbaijan, according to the Food Safety Index of the Davos Economic Forum, is 57th.
The newspaper "Echo" published an article about the distrust of citizens to banks.
The population increasingly prefers to keep money at home, which negatively affects the economy and the banking sector. Banks should raise interest on deposits, at least on long-term deposits.
According to the Central Bank, in 2017 the level of deposits of individuals amounted to 7.56 billion manat (an increase of 1.5% over the year).
The volume of deposits in national currency at the end of the year amounted to 2.5 billion manat (growth for the year by 66.9%). For a year the share of deposits in national currency increased from 20.4 to 33.5%.
The website "Azadlıqinfo.az" writes about lawlessness of the authorities towards society, to which the society does not react adequately. Protest spirit in society is at a very low level. The author notes total fatalism in a society like "what will change from my words and protest," "all roads lead to Rome," "everything is decided in the corridors of power, and nothing depends on us." The author does not consider accidental the fact that the country is in such a difficult situation.
