Azerbaijan and EU will discuss protection of migrants
The protection of migrant workers’ rights, as well as their integration, will be discussed during the workshop for public officials of Azerbaijan in the country’s capital Baku between 5 and 6 May. The event is organised by the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission (TAIEX) in co-operation with the Institute on Human Rights of the country’s National Academy of Sciences.
The regulation of migration and the protection of the rights of migrants, in particular migrant workers, constitutes one of the most pressing issues of the day in Azerbaijan, said the event agenda. Experts from Lithuania, Spain, and the Council of the European Union will share EU experience in dealing with the issue. Representatives of the Azerbaijani Parliament and respective state institutions will present the country’s current legislative framework for the protection of migrant workers.
TAIEX is a demand-driven tool that supports partner countries with the approximation of national laws, regulations and quality standards to those of EU Member States in the framework of Cooperation or Association agreements signed with the EU. TAIEX Assistance is given through expert missions, workshops or seminars and study visits. In the Eastern Neighborhood, TAIEX works with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. In 2016, TAIEX celebrates its 10 years of engagement with the EU Neighborhood countries. (EU Neighbourhood Info.) -02D-
