British Ambassador Hopes for Fair Elections in Azerbaijan
Baku / 13.12.19 / Turan: Parliamentary elections in Great Britain will be a big victory for the Conservatives. This opinion was expressed today by the Ambassador of this country to Azerbaijan, James Sharp.
“The forecast is that the ruling Conservative party will get the majority of seats in parliament. They did not have a majority in the previous parliament, so the Conservatives could not get the parliament to approve the agreement with the European Union on Britain leaving the EU. Thus, on January 31 of next year, Great Britain can leave the European Union,” the Ambassador said.
Touching upon the upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, the Ambassador noted that the parliamentary systems of the two countries are seriously different and it would be wrong to compare them.
“We hope to see free and fair elections in Azerbaijan,” the diplomat said.
According to exit polls, the Conservatives should get 368 out of 650, Labor - 191, National Party of Scotland - 55, Liberal Democrats - 13, Plaid Camry - 3, Green Party - 1 and independent candidates - 19 places. -16D-
