Conference "Islamic Enlightenment and Modernity"
On April 16 at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (NASA) began the International Scientific Conference on "Islamic enlightenment and modernity." The conference involved scientists from Turkey, Russia, Iran, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Morocco, Sweden, Finland, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as officials from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan.
Understanding and acceptance of Islam on the cultural level requires the formation of a new scientific attitude to this doctrine. The purpose of the event is to bring together scientists and professionals to solve problems that have arisen as a result of the global problems of extremism and terrorism, Islamophobia, according to a press release from the Academy of Sciences.
The conference is held in the sections: "The importance of Islamic enlightenment in a globalizing world", "The international significance of multiculturalism, interreligious dialogue and tolerant environment, and Azerbaijan's role in this process", "World Religions against manifestations of terrorism, extremism, separatism and xenophobia."
The theme of the 60 reports were: the place and the position of Islam in interreligious dialogue; concept of enlightenment in Islam; ideas of Islam against discrimination of terrorism; Islamic fundamentalism; Islamophobia and the use of the Islamic factor in modern geopolitics; the current state propaganda of Islamic values ,and so on. -02D-

On 15 November, a group of activists held a protest at the COP29 climate conference against the environmental pollution in Africa and the destruction of the continent's ecology by large companies. The activists also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that a part of the revenues from mining is not channelled into the restoration of nature's damage.
