Congressman Dana Rohrabacher arrives in Baku
The U.S. Congressman, Dana Rohrabacher, who urged Washington to support the struggle of the South Azerbaijanis for their independence, has arrived in Baku, according to a diplomatic source. Today and tomorrow the Congressman will have meetings with Azerbaijani officials, the same source reported.
In August, in his letter to the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Congressman spoke of the need to support the fight for the independence of South Azerbaijan from Iran.
"The people of Azerbaijan has been geographically divided two hundred years ago, and many Azeris call for the unification of the motherland," said in the letter. The Congressman also noted that in Iran the number of ethnic Azerbaijanis is by two times more than in Azerbaijan.
"This country gained independence in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and how it is a time when the Azerbaijanis of Iran also should win their freedom," said the Congressman.
"Support for the legitimate aspirations of the people of Azerbaijan in the struggle for independence is a noble cause in itself," reads the letter. -03В-

Despite the fact that the Russian air defense system mistakenly attacked the AZAL aircraft, Russia is responsible for this, stated the "Musavat" party today. It is "outrageous" that the Russian side did not allow the crew of the damaged aircraft to make an emergency landing in Grozny, Mineralnye Vody, or Makhachkala. Moreover, the aircraft's navigation system was disabled, causing Baku to lose communication with the captain of the plane for an extended period of time.
