Cooperation between Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan is important for the whole world - Ilham Aliyev (UPDATED)

Tbilisi.06.05.14.Turan -BSPRESS: Georgian - Turkish- Azerbaijani cooperation is of great importance for the whole world, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the opening of Tbilisi Summit 2014 in the capital of Georgia, with the participation of heads of state of the three countries.

According to him, today the Georgian- Turkish-Azerbaijani cooperation is of great importance not only for our countries but also for the region and the world. "Our cooperation is based on common interests. At the same time we realize joint projects that go beyond regional boundaries and are global in nature. Therefore, the summit itself is a very significant international event," said the President of Azerbaijan.

The Head of State expressed confidence that today the sides will exchange views on international issues of regional security, energy security, as well as on cooperation in transport and humanitarian spheres.

The meeting of the Presidents of the three countries is held in Tbilisi in the format of Trabzon Declaration signed in Trabzon on June 8, 2012. The document was signed by the Foreign Ministers Ahmet Davutoglu and Elmar Mammadyarov and the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Grigol Vashadze. Since 2012 in this format three meetings of the foreign ministers have been held. The summit in Tbilisi is the first meeting of heads of state - participants of Trabzon Declaration.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul said: "We do not believe the high Caucasus Mountains wall separates us. No, we have actually turned them into a way binding us."

According to him, the summit is another confirmation of multilateral and constructive cooperation between Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan. He noted that in 2007 with the presentation of the new project, cooperation between the three countries entered a new phase. Since then meetings between representatives of various ministries of Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan have been held on a regular basis.

Gul said that during the Tbilisi Summit 2014 the sides will discuss in detail the joint projects, including the construction of the Baku- Tbilisi-Kars railway, which is currently under construction. It will connect Azerbaijan to Turkey via Georgia. As well as the planned Trans-Anatolian pipeline project of "strategic importance", the projects will contribute to peace and stability in the region.

"These projects are important not only for the region but also globally. We are all aware of the importance of these global projects and these three countries are doing their utmost to ensure security and stability in the South Caucasus," said the Turkish President. -02D-
