Council of Europe notes 3-fold growth of wardens in Azerbaijan
Baku/04.12.18/Turan: In Azerbaijan, for every 100,000 people, there are 249 prisoners, stated the report "Prisons of Europe", published on December 4.
The study compares the situation from 2005 to 2015. Number of convicts in Europe per 100 thousand population in 2005-2015 remained stable. At the same time, starting from 2005, as they move from east to west, these figures have decreased.
But there are exceptions. For example, in England, Wales, Spain and Portugal, the number of convicts is relatively higher, and in Croatia, Greece, Slovenia and Turkey below.
In 2015, there were 249.3 prisoners per 100,000 people in Azerbaijan. In Georgia, there are 274 for every 100 thousand people, in Armenia - 129, of the Russian Federation - 440 prisoners.
Compared to 2005, in 2014/2015 in Azerbaijan, a decrease was observed in a number of indicators. Thus, the number of people admitted to prison reduced by 24%, the number of deaths by 10 thousand convicts decreased by 38%, suicides - by 70%.
However, the total number of convicts showed an increase of 23%, the density in prisons increased by 25%, the number of imprisoned women - by 83%, foreigners - by 12%.
The number of guards increased by 298%, the cost of maintaining prison administrations - by 11%. -06D-
