FATE OF MATTHEW BRYZA BE DISCUSSED ON 21 SEPTEMBER
Among the candidates are ambassadors to the Czech Republic, Germany and Azerbaijan. The session to be chaired by Senator Kerry.
If the Committee approve Bryza, his nomination will be put to a general meeting of the Senate.
Recall that in August, senators postponed a vote on his candidacy, demanding written answers to some questions about his work and private life.
President Obama signed a decree on appointment of Bryza as Ambassador to Azerbaijan In May this year. The position of U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan is free from July 2009.

On January 13, the trial in the case of public activist Nijat Ibrahim continued in the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Aygun Gurbanova. The International Committee of Concerned Scholars (ICS) has appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, requesting his assistance in securing the release of the arrested researcher, Igbal Abilov. The ICS expressed concern that Abilov's arrest "may be related to his research on ethnic minorities in Azerbaijan, conducted in collaboration with scholars from Armenia."
