Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan will meet in Switzerland
Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia , Edward Nalbandian and Elmar Mammadyarov will allegedly take place in the third week of January, said a diplomatic source. In the near future the OSCE Minsk Group on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict will visit Geneva to discuss the format of negotiations with the OSCE Chairman- Minister for Foreign Affairs, Didier Burkhalter.
The meting of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia may be held no earlier than February , and everything will depend on the willingness of the negotiating agenda, the source said.
The fact that immediately after taking office, the chairman, Burkhalter extended the mandate of Andrzej Kasprzyk as personal representative of the OSCE Chairman- in the Armenian -Azerbaijani conflict testifies successful preparatory process of further negotiations. This is the 17th of the appointment of Kasprzyk who has a large experience as a mediator in the conflict and prevention military excesses on the contact line.
In late December, after the visits to the region on 15-19 December the OSCE Minsk Group issued a statement in which he " called on the parties to refrain from actions that could increase tension, and work to preserve an atmosphere conducive to progress at the negotiating table." Co-Chairs expressed "concern about the recent acts of violence on the border , which undermine the prospects for peace."
Co-chairs Igor Popov (Russia), Jacques Faure (France), James Warlick (USA) and Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in -Office Andrzej Kasprzyk met with the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia , as well as with the leadership of the Armenian community of Nagorno-Karabakh.
During consultations in Yerevan and Baku interlocutors talked about advancing the process of peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict in the context of the meeting of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev last November 19 in Vienna, and December 4 in Kiev talks between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan. - 0 –
