Hande Harmanchi: You shouldn't think that the "British strain" will not come to Azerbaijan
Baku/02.02.21/Turan: “At present, the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic in Azerbaijan has stabilized. However, we must not forget that the pandemic has not ended either in the world or in Azerbaijan," the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Azerbaijan, Hande Harmanji, told the press.
“The decrease in the number of infections is the result of a strict quarantine regime and restrictions. When the restrictions are lifted, their number will inevitably increase again. Therefore, everyone should continue to follow the rules. In this case, we can keep the situation as it is,” she said.
According to her, the emergence of new mutations in the coronavirus is inevitable: preliminary studies have shown that the British strain is more infectious. However, it can be detected using existing tests and vaccines are effective against this strain. It is now known to have a 50-70 percent higher infection rate. At the same time, there are ambiguous results on the increase in mortality. The new strain has now been found in about 50 countries.
“You shouldn't think that it will not spread in Azerbaijan, but everyone knows how to fight the virus,” Harmanji said. 06D-
