Iran-Israel showdown in Yerevan
The conference "The dynamics of regional security in the South Caucasus" in Yerevan became the scene of a showdown between the former Israeli ambassador to Georgia and Armenia, Baruch Ben Neria and a representative of the Iranian Embassy in Armenia H. Dzhafarirad.
As reported by the Armenian media, Ben Neria said that one of the reasons for Israel's increased cooperation with countries of the region was the threat posed by Iran. "Israel seeks to ensure good relations with all the neighbors of Iran and make them allies in the fight against Iran," he said.
Then Ben Neria said Iran also threatens the region and, in particular, Azerbaijan. "Iran is trying to destabilize the situation in Azerbaijan, and to destroy the secular system in this country," he said.
The Israeli speech angered the Iranian representative. Dzhafarirad expressed outrage at the fact that "Armenia invites such people to conferences."
The Iranian representative said that Iran pursues a peaceful policy, both in the region and around the world. "We have a friendly attitude to all countries of the world and the region, and we do not represent any threat to anyone," he said. -02D-
