Journalists and Human Rights Activists Commemorate Rafig Taghi
The Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety organized a 23 November rally in memory of the known publicist Rafig Taghi, killed by an unknown criminal two years ago.
A group of journalists, human rights activists and representatives of civil society with the relatives of the deceased visited the Taghi grave.
The ceremony coincided with the Day against Impunity, which is celebrated on November 23 and is dedicated to the victims of freedom of expression and the fight for their rights.
Participants of the rally recalled the merits of Rafig Taghi in upholding freedom of expression on topics that are considered taboo. In particular, they noted his criticism of the Iranian religious leaders, for which the Islamists issued a fatwa calling to kill the journalist.
Despite promises by the authorities of Azerbaijan, the Taghi murder was never solved. Recall that an unknown offender inflicted Taghi several stab wounds on his doorstep on November 18, 2011 and a few days later the publicist died from the wounds in hospital. –16D--
