Leader of Islamic Party in Cooler
Serving his sentence in the Gobustan prison, the leader of the Islamic Party Movsum Samedov has been put in solitary confinement. According to his relatives, Samedov has been kept in solitary confinement for six days.
Today, the lawyer Anar Gasimli was not allowed to the convict. According to the lawyer, he was asked to come to the meeting after June 25 without giving an explanation of the reason for the punishment.
The lawyer called this "lawlessness and restriction of the right to defense." Samedov really needs a lawyer now, as he can appeal the decision to place him in solitary confinement, the lawyer said.
He is convinced that the decision to put Samedov in the cooler is not issued specifically to prevent his appeal.
* Samedov was arrested in January 2011 after the harsh criticism of the authorities for violation of the rights of believers. In October of the same year Samadov was sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of trying to seize power, illegal possession of weapons and other crimes.
Human rights organizations recognize Samedov a political prisoner. -03B-
